COVID-19 Update
Conferences, especially large-scale international ones, are likely to be among the last things to restart in a post-COVID-19 world. There will be restrictions on larger events for some time to come and it looks like conferences will not be possible for the foreseeable future. With the continued uncertainty around the possibility of restrictions having to re-tighten there is an understandable reluctance to arrange larger events that may have to be cancelled later.
In normal circumstances I would ask for a booking fee to confirm a conference booking but given that everyone is struggling with planning at the moment I am prepared to take on future conference bookings without any booking fee at this stage, at least until the situation becomes clearer.
Please get in touch if you are starting to plan an Edinburgh conference for later in 2021 or beyond.

Conferences are all about bringing like-minded people together to share their knowledge and passion for their subject. Great photographs are an important element of the event, giving you pictures to share with everyone who was there and to use in preparation for the next conference, showing people just how good your conference was.
If the conference has a political or campaigning element the media may well want to cover what took place. Even if the national press is not interested, the local media may have space for pictures of the event. And there are always your own publications and website where there should always be room for strong images.
Any conference is likely to be the culmination of months or even years of preparation and therefore hiring a professional photographer to record the event ensures there is a lasting record of everybody's hard work without depending on one of the organisers remembering to grab a few shots in between their other responsibilities.
A lot of the time, simple documentary reportage is the best sort of conference photography, capturing everyone participating in the varied aspects of the conference timetable. That will include photographs of delegates and speakers in a natural, candid style taking part the serious business of lectures and workshops as well as enjoying the no less important social events. However there may also be particular people you want photographed, such as important sponsors or special guests, or critical moments you need to capture, such as the handing out of awards or the formal handover from one president of the organisation to the next. Feel free to discuss any specific requirements either in advance or at the event.
