Cookie Policy
What are cookies?
A cookie is a small amount of data generated by a website and stored electronically by your web browser. Its purpose is to remember information about you, similar to a preference file created by a software application. They act as your personal identity online, and help make websites work better for you - for example by storing your login ID, or remembering your search history.
There are two types of cookies based on how long the cookies remain on your computer - 'session' and 'persistent'. Session cookies are only temporary and are deleted when the browser is closed. One example might be to track items in your shopping cart. Persistent cookies are designed to store data for a longer period of time. Each persistent cookie has an expiry date. Once the expiry date is reached, the cookie is automatically deleted.
There are categories of cookies, based on what the cookies are used for, rather than how long they hang around.
Can I opt-out of receiving cookies?
Yes. There are two ways - you can adjust your browser settings, or you can opt out with individual companies themselves.
Option 1 - Using your browser to reject cookies: you can set your browser either to reject all cookies, to allow only ‘trusted’ websites to set them, or to accept them only from a particular website. They way you do this will vary depending on which browser you are using. This WikiHow page walks you through the major browsers.
Option 2 - Opt out of specific cookies (recommended)
Let's go through each 'category' of cookies this website uses, and the ways to opt out if you want to. Again, if you use multiple browsers, or devices, you will need to do this for each combination. I have linked to the opt outs in the detailed cookie section below, where available.
Strictly Necessary Cookies
This website is built and run on the web based Weebly web-hosting service. Weebly state that "All cookies placed by Weebly for visitors of your site are strictly necessary for the operation of the service by Weebly, and based upon our research should be exempt from the EU cookie directive." For further information see the Weebly Privacy Policy.
Performance Cookies
Analytics cookies are used to collect information about how users use a website. The cookies collect information in an anonymous form, including the number of visitors to the site, where visitors have come to the site from and the pages they visited, and what type of device (eg Windows PC, Samsung Mobile) they used. Weebly use QuantServe for analytics. They also use SnowPlow, although at the time of writing the Weebly Privacy Policy still does not reference this company.
Advertising Cookies
Weebly use a third party called QuantCast to serve up targeted advertising and marketing. If opted in then various advertising companies will put cookies on the browser. These cookies are used to track users across websites to that relevant advertising can be targeted at them. My website has no advertising on it but you may wish, nonetheless, to opt out of these cookies. This will have no effect on the site operation. Opt out of QuantCast advertising here. Remember, you'll need to do this on every browser / device you use.
